SEBI extends trading hours! 3 Disadvantage

SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) is the regulatory body that oversees the securities market in India. In December 2021, SEBI announced that it would extend trading hours for equity derivatives segments from 9:00 AM to 11:55 PM, starting from January 2022. While this move is expected to increase trading volumes and improve liquidity, there are some potential disadvantages to this change:

Increased stress on market participants: The extended trading hours could increase stress levels for market participants such as traders, brokers, and other stakeholders, who would need to work for longer hours, leading to potential burnout and health issues.

Higher operational costs: Brokers and trading firms may need to incur higher operational costs to support the extended trading hours, such as additional infrastructure and staffing, which could impact their profitability.

Potential increase in volatility: Extended trading hours may lead to increased volatility as news and events outside of regular market hours could impact prices during extended hours. This could lead to greater market uncertainty and risk for investors.
