Chrysler Corp., needed to compete with luxury cars, Cadillac and Lincoln. So in 1955, the rivived Imperial was the answer. As is turned out, it was a glorified Chrysler with many options, a hemi V8, 331 cid and 250 hp., air conditioning, power steering, power windows, power brakes, etc. Some Imperials were converted into stretch limos. Imperials came in two models; The Southampton and the Crown Imperial. The Southampton came in a sedan or coupe. The Crown was either a 4-door, 8 passenger or the limo. This example is a Southampton sedan. Most notable features of this Imperial is the push button tranmission selector buttons, the power steering hub in the center of the steering wheel, early air conditioning system installed, a lot of chrome accents on the dash, luxurious interior including Mickey Mouse, and those "gunsight" tailights. This Imperial cost $5,225 and only 1,543 4- doors units were built. In the long run however, the Imperial just didn't come close to the competition and was always a low production luxury car. Thank you very much for viewing this gorgeous 1956 Imperial.
