The Bighorn Sheep is Colorado's state animal. They was given this designation back in the early 1960's. Bighorn sheep can only be found in the Rocky Mountain range and I want to say the bulk of them are located in Colorado. Due to near extinction by the turn of the century, they was placed on the Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep protection status on Endangered Species Act. though numbers have rebounded nicely, it's still illegal to hunt them unless outer wise allowed by law.
These awesome created live high in the rouged terrain above the timberline. But relax, if you want to see these magnificent creatures, you don't need to be a National Geographic Mountain Climber. These increasable creatures all though impressive as they maybe for handling the rocky cliffs, they have an issue with deep snow. So doing they come down to the lower hills during the winter months.
