‘The Dilemma’ is a thought-provoking short film that sheds light on the practice of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C), also known as Khafz or Khatna. The film explores the reality of FGM in certain Indian communities, where a young girl child’s clitoral hood or protective cover of the clitoris is cut, damaging her genitals and potentially impacting her future sexual pleasure. The practice also has harmful physical and psychological consequences.
Produced by WeSpeakOut, a survivor-led organization dedicated to eradicating FGM, the film aims to humanize and highlight the heart-wrenching dilemma faced by parents born into communities that perpetuate this harmful tradition. With sensitivity and nuance, the film demonstrates that change begins from within.
