An intense temperature inversion kept the foothills of the Black Hills in western South Dakota locked in a dense layer of freezing fog on Friday. The ice accumulated on powerlines, trees, and other outdoor structures making the area look like a frosted winter wonderland. While towns higher in elevation like Custer and Hill City reported temperatures in the 60s, Rapid City struggled to get out of the 20s. Area lakes remain frozen ahead of the next winter blast that's expected to hit the area this weekend.
Package includes:
Drone footage of icy-white trees
Drone footage of Rapid City water tower surrounded by a winter wonderland
Drone footage of Lake Pactola frozen with stunning blue ice
