My flange bolts rusted off and the exhaust flange or the donut fell away from the manifold pipe. Making the tailpipe super loud.I couldn't reach the old bolts to hit with a hammer to knock them out.
And I do not have a torch to heat it up and them punch it out grind it out,,,NOPE THIS IS WHAT I FIGURED OUT
Here is the easy instructions...
get two repair clamps from auto parts company.
one larger than bottom clamp-mine was 2 inch lower and upper I used 2 and a half inch clamp on top-its made this way so the lower pipe will fit into the upper with a flange gasket on the lower.
Most call it a exhaust Donut.
The bolts that come with it will not be long enough ...So go to hardware store and get longer bolts.. Take the bolts that came with the clamp kit with u to match up the right size.. Get all thread bolts and cut them to size ... The cut Size is about 2 to 3 inches longer than the one that came with the kit....Use two nuts to suck it up together one on top and one on lower repair clamp...that's if you are using a all thread and cutting to size.
NOW PUT SOCKET AND RACHET OVER THE OLD NUT ON BOTTOM AND TWIST IT SHOULD EASY SNAP OFF IF THEY HAVEN'T RUSTED AWAY CAUSING THE PROBLEM IN THE FIRST PLACE... TIGHTEN OR LOOSEN EITHER WAY SHOULD SNAP THE FLANGE BOLTS WEAR GLOVES BE CAREFULL. BOLTS SHOULD BE EASY TO SNAP IF THEY ARE OLD.
Now Place the top clamp over the top of the old flange on top of the top pipe making sure its large enough to fit over the the pipe and close all the way. Be sure you can put the bolts thru the hole in the clamp and it fits over the flange AND so you can Still Put a lower clamp on MAKING sure the upper bolts will fit into the lower clamp... I turned the hole in the middle or the old flange bolts so it the bolts will line up with the lower.. If you don't the bolts cant reach the lower clamp..
THEN start to tighten one at a time ...Just tighten a small amount at a time then do the other side so it goes up level wont cross thread or be crooked...
Keep alternating left right till it"its tight and you just fixed your Tail pipe donut for under 15 bucks or so,, should take less than 30 minutes
