Rooted vs. Fettered - Act 4
Vande Mataram - An ode to Mother India
For the first time, Sridevi Nrithyalaya is releasing a full length dance production on YouTube, Vandé Mataram. Acts 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 have already been uploaded and now Act 4 is up to commemorate the 75 years of free India.
Act 4 of our Vandé Mataram showcases our almost forgotten, traditional 'living with nature' culture in contrast with today's dominating 'living with gadgets' practice.
Has there been a misunderstanding with the way we have interpreted the term 'the world is in our hand' by just limiting it to the distance electronics can take us?
Are we distancing ourselves from our family and fellow humans to live trapped, inside a mere machine?
Are personal health and good habits being compromised to stay immersed in a state of virtual existence?
Though improvement in the quality of living and development in technology are for our betterment, one can't help but wonder if the concept of being a 'social animal' has progressed so far that it has regressed to the confines of a small screen.
Sridevi Nrithyalaya's Vandé Mataram earnestly attempts to remind ourselves and our children about the necessity of realising what we are missing out on when we are so far deep into this technologically reigned lifestyle.
While the main characters on the foreground depict the contrasting lifestyles, the background dancers perform abstract choreography to further drive in the intended concepts.
