Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontiéres (MSF) opened a hospital in the Tabarre area of Port-au-Prince in late November to respond to emergency trauma cases, such as patients wounded by gun shots, stabbings, and traffic accidents. The medical needs the team treats reflect a high level of violence as political and economic crisis continues in the country.
“We knew we were meeting a need here," says Jean-Fabrice Pietri, MSF project coordinator. “In terms of serious and urgent cases, but obviously the situation is even worse than we imagined, so we will have to adapt quickly enough and go faster than we had anticipated.”
