Using Boric acid and alcohol to prevent fire scale while soldering sterling. I set up my solder joint using batterns and snippets. I wick off most of the flux then heat until the flux has dried, because there is minimal flux, there is minimal frothing, minimal movement. While the piece is still hot from drying the batterns, I paint on a boric acid/alcohol solution. It dries immediately and stops before it floods the prepared joint. Again avoiding frothing and movement of the snippets and parts because the boric acid has not flooded the joint.
