What if the characters of "Downton Abbey" were on the Titanic?
The Crawley family boards the R.M.S. Titanic for a trip to America to visit Lady Cora's family. Matthew, the heir to the Crawley estate, and his mother travel with the family, too, in an attempt to get to know the man who will eventually own the property. The eldest daughter, Mary, objects to Matthew's presence, but he is smitten with her. Edith admires the ship with discomfort, remembering how the man she once loved (Patrick) drowned. The youngest daughter, Sybil, treats the experience as an adventure, often sneaking away from the group to spend time with her friend, Tom, a chauffeur, who secretly loves her.
Meanwhile, Anna, the Crawley daughters' maid, embarks on an enterprise of her own. Among lady's maids and valets, she meets John Bates, the valet with a mysterious past, Thomas, a dour steward searching for a new career, O'Brien, Lady Cora's personal maid and equally stern friend of Thomas, and William, a new steward learning the ropes.
A symbol of the interaction (and distinction) between classes and the slow descent of the noble class power, the Titanic sets off for America....
