The global pandemic has put the health and wellness of older individuals at the forefront of concern for not only the medical community, but also the general population. The extra care taken to prevent unnecessary COVID exposure has led to devastating side effects, including physical and mental challenges, obesity, depression, anxiety, and even death.
Traditional elder wellness programming has focused primarily on only the physical aspects of health. Research has proven that decreased physical health leads to falls, wounds, an increase in chronic disease, and overall poor health. However, recent studies have taught us that there is much more to consider for a person's overall wellness than just the physical. Emotional, spiritual, and intellectual wellness are equally important when it comes to creating a happy and healthy life for the elders we support.
