China’s President Xi Jinping has opened a two day summit where he’s attempting to win support for an ambitious economic project that could transform World trade.
He’s hosting 29 World leaders including the Presidents of Russia, Turkey and the Philippines…but others are notable by their absence.
President Xi’s plan is known as - the ‘Belt Road initiative’ - could be seen as a modern version of the Old Silk Road, and envisions a vast network of new trade routes in Central Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
Economists have compared the project to the Marshall Plan that rebuilt Europe at the end of World War Two, but critics argue the project could mean China eventually dominating World trade.
