When do you need a tripod tall enough to stand and shoot from? The answer is pretty simple. If you are ever presented with a shot opportunity that you are tempted to shoot off-hand, whether because of the high brush or other terrain features that prevent you from going prone or taking a solid seated shot, the tripod will give you bench-rest stability while standing.
This season, I took a fantastic moose at about 300 yards while standing. Being able to pick an open shooting lane at a comfortable distance was the ticket and allowed me to stay out of sight and scent from the large group of bulls and cows down below me.
