The Treasure on the Hill
Every day we breathe and move around in the city. Decades have passed by in a blink of an eye, leaving behind traces of the past, layering into the present moment.
Treasure Hill is a community situated on the shore of Xindian River and at the foot of Hukung Shan, filled with residents who arrived at different times from Taiwan and abroad with varying lengths of stay. Together, we shared vegetable gardens and home-cooked meals, sung folk songs, kneaded dough and clay, hammered desks, shook bodies, set up cameras, mixed paint, and dragged along our suitcases…all these are memories that float before our eyes. All these scenes have created sounds and images in our ears and minds.
The hill is home to hidden treasure, a style of life that is simple and unique. Although this historical village is tucked away at the edge of Taipei City and was viewed as illegal buildings in the past, today, the village has become an internationally-renowned space for artists. This village that mixes life and art includes homes, vegetable gardens, artist studios, and traditional grocery stores as well as a variety of exhibitions and performances. Slow down your footsteps, relax, and experience the surroundings with mindful observation.
