Dr. David Williams, Ontario chief medical officer of health, and Dr. Barbara Yaffe, associate chief medical officer of health in Ontario, provided the daily COVID-19 update on Friday.
Dr. Barbara Yaffe announced 50 new cases of COVID-19 in Ontario as of 4:00 p.m. Thursday. The total number of active cases in the province to 311, with two deaths and five recovered, as of Friday afternoon.
She said the majority of cases were travel-related, with most patients exposed to the disease in the U.S. A small percentage were from an unknown source.
Yaffe also said that about 3,000 tests have been done each day in Ontario and the capacity would increase to 5,000 a day by early next week.
So far, around 20,000 people have been tested in the province.
