STORYLINE:

Caleb Ewan won Wednesday's fifth stage of the Giro d'Italia.

The Australian Lotto Soudal rider covered the 177-kilometres (110-miles) from Modena to Cattolica on the Adriatic coast in a time of four hours seven minutes and one second.

Giacomo Nizzolo was second in the same time - Elia Viviani placed third.
