Brian Vinrace Lawrance was born in Adelaide, South Australia on October 13th 1909. He began singing at an early age and as a teen took up the violin. Brian appeared in several musical productions in Australia. He cut his first 78 record for Columbia at their Homebush studios in February 1927. In March 1927 Brian and his mother travelled to the United Kingdom to further his career. By the end of May he had his first job in a revue starring Maurice Chevalier. There soon followed a recording contract and the rest as they say, is history. Brian returned to Australia in early 1940 just after the outbreak of WW2. He worked at various Sydney venues and had a weekly broadcast over ABC radio. Brian Lawrance passed away in Sydney on September 11th 1983. On this recording in London April 8th 1935 Brian sings with Carroll Gibbons & the Savoy Hotel Orpheans. The song is “So Red The Rose”. Recorded for Columbia Matrix #CA14987
