Close to 100 pilot whales stranded themselves on a beach in Western Australia on Tuesday, about half of which had died by the next morning, despite the efforts of experts and volunteers to save them.
Wildlife officials have urged the public to stay away from Cheynes Beach, warning of “large, distressed and potentially sick whales, sharks, waves, heavy machinery and vessels”.
