Keynote Address - Beyond Vanilla: A Challenge to "What We Know"
About Ethics and Aging
Dr. Holstein will identify and then challenge the ethical framework - the
vanilla approach - that now dominates this country's understanding of ethics
in an aging society. Arguing that ethics should have a broader scope both in
terms of the subject matter addressed and the approaches used to resolve
ethical dilemmas, she will encourage participants to consider the necessity
of justifiable anger (the non-vanilla emotion) as a response to persistent
societal ageism and the threats to critical programs.
