In 1976, radio station WWV proposed curtailing operation on 2.5 MHz, 20 MHz, and 25 MHz to reduce operating costs. Operations on 20 MHz and 25 MHz were ended on February 1, 1977, but the 20 MHz transmitter was placed back on the air two years later.
The audio is from a tape recording I made of WWV's frequency change announcement in 1976. The image is from the main tuning dial of the receiver from which the recording was made.
