What Type of Anesthesia Used For Rhinoplasty

This is Dr Joseph Shvidler from The Seattle Facial Plastic Surgery Center - we frequently get asked questions about what kind of anesthesia do you get during rhinoplasty surgery. There's essentially three types of anesthesia you could be either awake or sedated where it means you're giving medications through an IV and you're kind of in this Twilight but still awake and talking to us and don't remember any procedure done after the surgery - you could be asleep under general anesthesia and either intubated with different types of airway there's laryngeal mask Airway which gently hugs your throat and then there's endotracheal tube which goes through your vocal cord now that type of two is a little bit more irritating than laryngeal mask Airway so traditionally we use the latter to make sure that when you wake up you don't have a sore throat.
