Since ancient times,Jackfruit has been a major food in our food culture.Jackfruit is also called as "Heraliya" in Sri Lanka.The name "Heraliya" attended from a delicious story as like as Jackfruit.
One day,While gathering alms,A buddhist monk came to a house where a elderly woman was living.That woman hadn't anything to give as alms.After she said that to the monk,the monk showed the Jackfruit tree that was infront of the garden and asked her to cook a Jackfruit.In that times,Jackfruit wasn't a eating food.Because of monk's request,woman started to cook a Jackfruit.When it was cooking,a tasty smell came from the Jackfruit chatty.The elderly woman picked a piece of Jackfruit and ate it.The monk saw that.Monk said "Heraliya" with a smile."Heraliya" means "The Woman Thief" in Sinhala language.


According to bruits,since that day,the elderly woman didn't stayed hungry in her lifetime and Jackfruit has been called as "Heraliya"in Sri Lanka.


All parts of a Jackfruit are eatable.Also Ripe Jackfruit is a delicious fruit with some salt or pepper powder.



Lets look at some nutritional benefits of Jackfruit.

Jackfruit contains nutrients such as Proteins,Lipids,Carbohydrates,Potassiums and Fibres.Also Jackfruit is a good cure for high blood pressure and many more illnesses.Young Jackfruit makes our circulatory system healthy and also good for pregnant mothers.I have heard my grandma saying that a Jackfruit seed contains Proteins more than 2 eggs.I would like to ask you to eat these natural foods instead of artificial unhealthy foods.

හෙරළිය හෙවත් කොස්..

අතීතයෙ ඉදන්ම කොස්, අපේ රටේ ආහාර සංස්කෘතියෙ ප්‍රධාන තැනක් ගන්නවා..කොස් වලට හෙරළිය කියලත් කියනවා.ඒ කතාවත් හරිම අපූරුයි.
දවසක් රහත් හිමිනමක් ගෙයක් ගෙයක් ගානෙ පිඩුසිගා වඩින අතරෙදි වයෝවෘද්ධ කාන්තාවක් සිටි නිවසකට පැමිනියා..ඒ කාන්තාවට දානය සදහා දීමට දෙයක් තිබුනේ නෑ.ඒ බව හිමිනමට දැන්වූ විට ගේ ඉදිරිපිට තිබූ කොස් ගහ දුටු හිමි නම 'මට මේකෙන් ගෙඩියක් තම්බා දෙන්නැයි' පැවසුවා.ඒ කාලය වන විට කොස් ආහාරය සදහා ගත්තේ නෑ..හිමිනමගෙ ඉල්ලීම නිසා ඇය කොස් ගෙඩියක් තැම්බෙන්නට ලිපේ තිබ්බා.කොස් තැම්බෙන විට ප්‍රණීත සුවදක් දැනෙන්නට වුනා..කාන්තාව හොරෙන්ම මුට්ටියෙ තිබූ කොස් කෑල්ලක් කෑවා.මෙය දිවැසින් දුටු හිමි නමට සිනා පහල වී 'හෙරළිය' කීවලු.එදා පටන් හෙරළිය යනුවෙන් හැදීන්වීමට පුරුදු වූ අතර වයෝවෘද්ධ කාන්තාවට කිසි දින බඩගින්නේ ඉන්නට සිදු වුනෙත් නෑ කියලා ජනප්‍රවාදයේ කියවෙනවා.
කොස් මදුළු,කොස් ඇට,ඇට වල පොත්ත,කොස් ඉරි ආදි සියලුම කොටස් ආහාරයට ගත හැකි අතර ඉදුනු පසු පලතුරක් වරකා හෝ වැල ලෙස ආහාරයට ගන්න පුලුවන්.මගේ ප්‍රියතම ආහාර වලින් එකක් තමයි වරකා..ලුනු කුඩු,ගම්මිරිස් කුඩු ටිකක් දාගත්තම ගෙඩියක් උනත් කන්න පුලුවන්...😀😀

මේ තරම් වාසි තියෙන කොස් වල පෝෂණ ගුනය ගැන පොඩ්ඩක් හොයලා බලමුද..?


කොස්මදුළු වල තන්තු,ප්‍රෝටීන්,මේදය,කාබෝහයිඩ්‍රේට්,පොටෑසියම් වගේ පෝශක අඩංගු වෙනවා.ඒත් එක්කම අධික රුධිර පීඩනයට කොලෙස්ටරෝල් පාලනයට වගේ ගොඩක් රෝගාබාධ වලට ගුණ ආහාරයක්..ඒ වගේම තමයි පොලොස් කියන්නේ හොදට ශරීරයට ලේ වඩවන ආහාරයක්.ගැබිනි මව්වරුන්ටත් ගොඩක් ගුණයි.කොස් ඇටයක බිත්තර 2ක පෝශනය තියෙනවා කියලා ඉස්සර අපේ ආච්චි අම්මා කියනවා මට මතකයි.කොස් පොලොස් වල ගුණනම් මට කියලා නිම කරන්න බැරි වෙයි..😍රසායනික ද්‍රව්‍ය යෙදු කෘතීම ආහාර වලට වඩා මේ වගේ ස්වාභාවික ගුනයෙන් පිරි දේශීය ආහාර කෑම වේලට එකතු කරගන්න කියලා මං ඔයාලගෙන් හැමදාමත් වගේ අදත් ඉල්ලනවා..☘️🍃
