UNESCO’s new Futures of Education initiative aims to rethink how knowledge and learning can shape the future of humanity and the planet. Looking to 2050 and beyond the initiative seeks to spark the conversation across the globe in order to reimagine how education can contribute to the global common good.
The initiative was launched on 25th September 2019, at the United Nations General Assembly, in New York (United States). In her opening remarks, UNESCO’s Director-General Ms. Audrey Azoulay highlighted UNESCO’s unique capacity to rethink education from “a deeply humanistic perspective, one that does not reduce education to a technical, technological, or economic issue.”
