This was taken out the front of Gara de Nord, the main train station in Bucharest, Romania on 12 April 2020. I went to recharge my STB travel card at a kiosk and get some medicine from the pharmacy in the station, as its an easy commute on a trolley bus direct there and home, about 10 mins each way.
Only a few essential things open and not many STB kiosks, but Gara de Nord is a main hub so both things open and I headed there. You need to have a signed 'Declaratie pe proprie Raspundere' or personal liability declaration either on your phone or on paper, for any trip made outdoors and it must be a valid reason. If you get stopped by the police or military and don't have it, you can be fined or arrested.
What struck me is just how quiet the streets are. This is spring time and normally would be thousands of people out and alive and bustling and weddings going on in parks etc. But it is just eerily quiet. That said the authorities here are doing a great job trying to contain Covid-19 and have gone hard to get it under control which is slowly happening now. The medical staff have been outstanding despite being overworked.
I just love Bucharest when its alive and I can't wait for it to get its mojo back and return to normal...sanatate buna tutoror.
