If you go to Europe to work remotely and increase your number of days on the mountain during your ski or snowboard season, and you visit Tignes/Val d’I’sere in France, you probably won’t be able to avoid the apres-ski scene. It’s everywhere! La Folie Douce is the main scene during the day, up on the mountain in Val d’Isere. You can hear the music on the mountain before you even ski or snowboard up to it. There is also Cocorico, with locations in both Tignes Val Claret and Val d’Isere, both of which go into the night. And Le Ballin at Tignes-Val Claret. This type of scene is hard to find outside of Europe. Some resorts in the U.S. are starting to try to duplicate it, but they aren’t quite there yet.
As with the first week of this trip, the location of our accommodations and work station set up were key. We stayed at Tignes-Val Claret, the highest elevation in Tignes. Our apartment rental was ski-in, ski-out, which saves a lot of time when you have to get back from the mountain and start working remotely by 3 pm (9 am NYC time). We have tended to use the dinner table as our work station, so we eat meals on the couch or coffee table. Small sacrifice to get weeks of extra mountain time!
The price of accommodations become more manageable the more people you have with you. And because European mountain accommodations currently are generally cheaper than those in the U.S., your money goes much further. That includes having laundry machines in your accommodations. It’s a huge help if you’re working remotely from Europe for longer than a couple of weeks.
