A Postcard From-A new series of photographic/footage videos taking a simple look at military airfields across the world.
Here we start with a look at the French naval airfield at Landivisiau, from back in the summer of 2015.
Situated in Brittany, about 30 miles from Brest, the airfield opened on 1st February, 1965 from an order from the then President, Charles De Gaulle.
Over the years it has been home to some of the French Aeronavale’s most significant aircraft, including the Dassault Etendard IV & Vought F-8 Crusader.
Back in 2015 the venerable Dassault Super Etendard (SEM) was in the twilight of its career with 17F Flottille, having played a key role in a number of conflicts around the world.
With the SEM being retired from service on 12th July, 2016 its place has been taken by the excellent Dassault Rafale M.
This video takes you behind the fence to see the flightline of both the SEM & Rafale, as well as a close look at the SEM simulator, as well as various other points of interest on the airfield.
This is a rare look at one of NATO’s most important military airfields.
This is Naval Aeronautical Base of Landivisiau 2015.
