Located on the northwestern tip of Occidental Mindoro is the town of Paluan. It is the home of Mt. Calavite Wild Life Sanctuary, a haven of biodiversity and one of the remaining areas where tamaraws still live in the wild.
Ever since I climbed Mt. Calavite way back in 2019, I wanted to return to explore more of what this laid-back town of Palaun has to offer. And after a 2-year hiatus brought upon by the pandemic, my chance to go back bring to fruition when I pitched my idea to Paluan Tourism Officer for a 5-Day exploration of the mountains and rivers of Paluan.
That idea became "Ablaw Liwas". A 5-day off-the-grid, ridges-to-reef adventure. A planned itinerary starts from Calawagan Mountain Resort to Mt. Calavite Wild Life Sanctuary, traverses to Pinagbayan, then a boat ride to Binarera Reef to conclude the adventure.
Due to severe weather conditions, we decided to skip Pinagbayanan and Binarera Reef, but we still managed to reach the summit of Mt. Calavite.
