“The Flower Princess” was created in 1957 by the famous Cantonese opera writer Tang Disheng based on real historical events. It has since become one of the most popular and frequently performed Cantonese operas in the classical canon, widely sung in Cantonese-speaking regions of China and Chinese communities around the world until today. "Dying of the Fragrance"(Xiang Yao) is its best-known act.
Cantonese Opera is a traditional opera in the Cantonese-speaking regions of Guangdong and Guangxi in China and is listed in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
This film remixes classic melodies with electronic music. While highlighting the exquisite costumes, graceful gestures and beautiful singing voices of traditional opera, it also integrates Chinese dances, shadow puppetry, martial arts and other art forms to explore the expressive potentials of Chinese classical operas. By utilizing modern filming techniques and aesthetics, the production team hopes to bring new vitality to traditional operas and introduce this excellent art form to wider audiences.
