Meteorologist Ashley Renee has your 8:50 am forecast. It's been a beautiful morning here in Baton Rouge. We've had a break from the rain for the last couple of days, but that will change today. There are a few showers and thunderstorms along the coast this morning. A few showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and evening as a weak front continues to move south through our area. We'll have drier weather tonight and during the overnight hours. Today's highs will be in the mid 90s. Heat index values will be in the lower 100s. Overnight lows will be in the upper 60s to mid 70s. Drier air moving in with the front will help dew points and temperatures to be a little lower for tomorrow. Tomorrow's highs might only reach the low 90s and heat index values will be in the mid 90s. We'll still have hot weather all week and rain chances will be lower for Tuesday through the end of the work week. No tropical development is expected over the next few days, but we are keeping an eye on tropical moisture that's expected to move out of the Caribbean and through the eastern Gulf. This will bring plenty of much needed rainfall for the Florida peninsula. Next weekend and early next week, that plume of tropical moisture could possibly work it's way towards us. There's still some uncertainty a few days out, but it will increase rain chances for this weekend and early next week. However, if the ridge of high pressure that's expected to move over our area near the end of the week remains strong enough, then we might have a drier weekend and deal with hot temps still. Stay tuned for updates. Have a magnificent Monday!
