Mayor Karl Dean and Police Chief Steve Anderson were joined by downtown community leaders to celebrate the grand opening of the Central Police Precinct at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11.
The $4 million project, first announced in January, 2013, relieves cramped quarters by nearly doubling Central Precinct's former office space in the front of Bridgestone Arena, where there was no room for expansion.
The new three-story building at 601 Korean Veterans Boulevard was specifically designed for police operations and uniquely complements the Music City Center across the street. The Central Precinct is headed by Commander Jason Reinbold, who oversees 122 Metro Police personnel, including patrol officers, detectives, motorcycle, bicycle and mounted officers. The precinct covers 4.3 square miles and is bounded by the interstate loop that surrounds the downtown area.
