Showers can be slippery places. A shower grab bar is just the solution. But installing a shower grab bar on tile surfaces can be daunting until you know what to do. A few of the right tools and some instruction and you are good to go:

Shower grab bars are handy additions to a bath tub or shower for extra support or to allow additional help to keep an individual steady when showering. And just like a stair railing, it makes sense for anyone who is trying to guard themselves from slipping in the tub or shower. Anyone with mobility issues or a handicap can get a better measure of control with such grab bars. Seniors may prefer the grab bars simply for peace of mind.

The steps to mounting any grab bar are:
1) - find a solid mounting location - preferably on a stud
2) mark the screw holes to drill
3) start drilling the holes with a diamond tipped drill bit
4) follow the initial hole through the tile by drilling a pilot hole into the stud with the appropriate sized drill bit
5) secure the shower grab bar to the wall with the included lag bolts
6) attach covers for the ends (if supplied)

The process is fairly straight forward.
The only intimidating part is drilling through the tile. By using a diamond tipped drill bit and pressing the bit into the surface of the tile and cracking the surface glazing is the secret. After that, the tile will drill through just like a piece of wood.

Shower grab bars can also be install in locations without studs directly behind them. Support for these grab bars would be found using wall toggle bolts rather than drilling directly into a stud.
