- Face the stairs, one hand on rail and the other holding the walking aids crossed over one another.

- To go up the stairs, the non-amputated leg goes first followed by the prosthesis and then crutches or canes.

- To go down the stairs, first lower the crutches or canes, then the prosthesis followed by the non-amputated leg.
