John of Fordun writes Chronicle of the Scots Nation in the 1360s, chronicling the activities of Wallace and Robert the Bruce, based on contemporary documents. In 1375, John Barbour writes, "The Bruce," an epic poem with Robert the Bruce as its chivalric hero. These two-works establish Bruce as a hero king and both men as champions of Scottish nationalism. In about 1475, a minstrel known as Blind Harry composes the epic poem "The Wallace," creating a powerful and enduring but not necessarily accurate view of the life of William Wallace. His work endures as the definitive historical account of Wallace's life and exploits.
