Instead of Bluey Heeler being the show’s main character, creator Joe Brumm claims “The show was originally called ‘Rusty’ and it was going to be about him, but it switched to Bluey.”

Speaking on the Two Bandits Watching Bluey podcast in 2022, Brumm revealed Rusty was his “favourite character” on the show.

He said, “I think he’s a cool little dude. You know, he’s fun to write for. He’s so… accepting and innocent, and quite tough as well. And he just gets on with it.”

While it’s unclear why the series changed its main character, it’s interesting to think how different the show could have been.
