Welcome to the 𝑴𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓 𝑯𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆, an iconic home built in 1931 by prominent Calgarian Chiropractor, Dr. Clarence Messenger.
Dr. Messenger & his wife, Mabelle, were well-known for their Halloween parties attended by over 500 children annually! The messengers were such colourful figures in the Calgary community and could often be seen driving their bright red Stutz Bearcat automobile around town.
Both the exterior and the interior were designed in the Spanish/Pueblo architecture style of Mexico and the south-western United States of America. This masonry structure is finished in rough stucco with rounded irregular edges/corners, a flat roof and numerous unique features.
Homes in this style had a certain vogue in the late 1920s and early 1930s in Alberta, particularly in well-to-do neighbourhoods, though few still remain.
Dr. Messenger was most notably one of the founding members of the Alberta Chiropractic Association.
