Srebrenica genocide - was the July 1995 genocidal massacre  of more than 8,000 Bosniak Muslim men and boys in and around the town of Srebrenica in eastern Bosnia during the Bosnian War.
The killings were perpetrated by units of the Bosnian Serb Army of Republika Srpska under Ratko Mladić. The Scorpions, a paramilitary unit from Serbia, who had been part of the Serbian Interior Ministry until 1991, also participated in the massacre.
Before the massacre, in 1993 the United Nations had declared the besieged  town of Srebrenica a "safe zone" under UN protection.
The Serb offensive against Srebrenica began in earnest on 6 July. The VRS, with 2,000 soldiers, were outnumbered by the defenders and did not expect the assault to be an easy victory.
On 11 July Town was taken by Bosnian Serb forces.
By the evening of 11 July, approximately 20,000-25,000 Bosniak refugees from Srebrenica were gathered in Potočari, seeking protection within the Dutchbat headquarters.
On July 12 with forcible deportation of women and children mass execution of Boaniak men and boys began.
