What is a dyno and what is it used for?
Well say hello to the Vivid racing, Mustang ___ Dynamometer or dyno for short.
We use this bad boy to find out the crank horsepower (or horsepower from the engine), wheel horsepower, and torque on a lot of the cars that we have come through the shop!
This is an inertia chassis dyno which means the entire car goes on it and rolls these big ole metal rollers that will smash up your leg if you get too close to it.
Now for this old dyno, we like to use it to get the delta’s or differences from a baseline test, then we’ll put whatever mods we’re doing on the car, and run it again!
Here’s our process for running it.
First we strap down the car, and every car is different.
Some are 2 wheel, some are 4wheel drive, some times we’ll strap the wheels and sometimes we’ll strap the frame.
After that we’ll prop up some fans to make sure there is airflow so the engine doesn’t overheat and nuke itself.
Once everything is set, we’ll warm up the engine, and calibrate the dyno to the 3rd or 4th gear on the car. Once it’s calibrated, we floor it to redline, and let off.
Then once the computer spits out all the numbers, we compare and share the information with you!
