Miranda Kennedy recently spoke at an book reading organized by the International Reporting Project (IRP). Miranda's new book, Sideways on a Scooter, discusses her experiences living and reporting in India for five years.
"For many middle-class, educated people—especially in cities—there's all kind of ways to do an arranged marriage. One of the best ways that people are finding is to go online," Kennedy explained.
"We have a cultural blockade in the West against the idea of arranged marriage," she noted, "and I actually felt that kind of breaking down for me when I was there."
She continued, "There's some kind of practical things that go along with making the choice of who you're going to spend your life with that perhaps have longer been a consideration in India than they have here" in the US.
