What happened in July in Middle-earth?
Thorin's Company crosses the Misty Mountains. Boromir convinces Denethor to give him leave to seek the meaning of Faramir's dream and begins a 110 day journey to Rivendell. Gandalf comes to Isengard and is imprisoned by Saruman on the pinnacle of Orthanc. Frodo seeks leave from Aragorn to return to the Shire. Arwen gives Frodo a white gem and her place on Elrond's ship when he departs the Grey Havens for Valinor. Thorin's Company takes shelter in a cave in the mountains. They are captured by goblins and taken before the Great Goblin. Gandalf rescues them, killing the Great Goblin in the process. Bilbo is separated from them and finds the One Ring. He wins a riddle game against Gollum who then refuses to show him the way out. Bilbo rejoins the Company and they are attacked by goblins and wargs. They are rescued by the Eagles who take them to their eyrie and then to the Carrock. The funeral escort of King
Théoden sets out from Minas Tirith for Edoras. Thorin's Company then travels to Beorn's house. Beorn lends them ponies which take them to the edge of Mirkwood. Gandalf then departs the Company because he has pressing business in the south with the White Council's assault upon Dol Guldur. Thorin's Company begins their long journey through Mirkwood.
