Monica Gonzalez, Epilepsy Advocate at Epilepsy Foundation of Florida, says epilepsy affects the entire family, not just a person who's having the seizures. "It's hard to explain epilepsy to others outside of your family unit; your child is probably not the one they're going to invite over their house for sleepovers when they're having this type of seizures," she points out.
She highlights the stigma is a problem for everyone that suffers from this condition and it causes a lot of social isolation.
