The slow and intentional movements of the hands, the pleasant scratching of the scalp, the gentle stroking, light hair pulling, the gentle tapping of fingers on the scalp, the mesmerizing rustling sounds and a particularly pleasant massage of the scalp with a gua sha scrubber turned the massage into a true miracle of relaxation. I felt the tension leave my body as a tingling sensation cascaded from my scalp to my neck and spine, plunging me into a wave of calm and serenity. And I got so deep into this experience that I didn’t even notice how I fell into a deep sleep.
