The late 1990s were a golden era for audio books on tape cassette. Among other more 'experimental' releases, several films and television programmes were released as specially audio-narrated presentations. These weren't examples of ordinary audio-description, and were tailored to each individual production, so that the narration felt like it was part of the original film or TV show. These 'Enhanced Audio' versions didn't appear for very long, and quickly became somewhat obsolete for a variety of reasons. Nonetheless, I wish there were more of them out there. I uploaded one of these 'Enhanced Audio' versions of Du Maurier's 'Rebecca' to my other channel, and now here is the enhanced audio version of this classic ITV adaptation. Michelle Magorian's children's novel is the tale of a lonely old man (played by John Thaw) and the troubled evacuee boy placed into his care...
