In Feb 2016 the great gibbon Forest opened at Twycross Zoo in England. Since then ( and to my knowledge ) the white critically endangered northern white cheeked gibbon female Kampuchea and Earl the male never ventured outside. In April last year Kampuchea had baby boy named Mekong. On every visit, I've been checking on them to see if they went outside yet. Mum has always loved sitting by the door which is always open, but the whole family never went outside. This visit, I couldn't believe my eyes, I spotted little Mekong outside! Just in front of the door, not too far away and he kept going back in and out and having a look at mum who sat by the other door. In the end you see mum joining her offspring by the other door and she seemed to hold him back. Little steps.... , but I think it won't be long until Mekong enjoys the outside to the full and I'll bet mum won't have any other choice but to join him. Something that would really make my day.
