The Battle of Lewes in May 1264 marks a fascinating turning point in England’s political history. The absolute monarchy of King Henry III is challenged by the Baronial class.
Rather than dramatize events from the battle, I have chosen instead to construct an object that would have been recognizable and quite familiar on the battlefield: a 13th century helmet based on those depicted in the Maciejowski Bible of the 1250’s.
This is not intended to be a tutorial in the normal sense, but rather aide us visually as to what was commonly worn during this battle. If you're interested in seeing fully explained armor tutorials, please let me know in the comments.
