Serbian riot police used strong-arm tactics to disperse thousands of
pro-democracy protestors in Belgrade on Sunday night to Monday (2-3/2). It was the most ruthless police operation since the start of peaceful mass demonstrations against the government of President Slobodan Milosevic two months ago.
At least 50 people were injured when police armed with clubs and water cannon moved in around midnight to disperse opposition protestors who had sought to cross a bridge between the city centre and a northern suburb.
