The song "Oka" was written in 1943 by the poet Leon Pasternak for the Polish 1st Tadeusz Kościuszko Infantry Division which was formed in the region of Sielce near the river Oka. The division was created with the help of the Soviet Union to fight the nazis and would later become the army of the People's Republic of Poland.
