One of the most prominent human rights activists out there, Salil Shetty talks about the Indian journey in terms of human rights. He underlines the fact that a nation's true growth lies not only in the economic growth but that of the human indices, and suggests ways to support that going forward. Salil Shetty is an Indian human rights activist who was the Secretary-General of the human rights organization Amnesty International (2010–2018) till 31 July 2018. Previously, he was the director of the United Nations Millennium Campaign. Before joining the UN, he served as the Chief Executive of ActionAid.
In recognition of his long-term commitment to Human Rights and his deep understanding of the complexities of human rights issues, Shetty was appointed a Senior Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School's Carr Center for Human Rights for the academic year 2018–2019.
