This is Western Digital's modern version of the old Hitachi Ultrastars. In fact, they are mostly produced by HGST to this day. The HDA is still a Hitachi design. This drive is sealed shut, and filled with helium. These are by far the best option for high capacity NAS/Data Center storage from WD. Ultrastars are built to last, and it shows. These are very fast and reliable, and they have been for many years.

This drive was purchased from eBay. It claims to be recertified, but it is just used. It wasn't certified by WD, thats for sure. These drives require 3.3v to be disabled in order for the drive to spin. 3.3v will cause the drive to not spin up. This drive also has a near-silent spindle. There is very little drag due to the helium, so the motor does not need to work very hard to spin the drive. The helium also makes it so the drive has no audible airflow noise, because it's sealed shut. Despite the quiet spindle, the seek noise is still very loud, much like other data center drives.
