Fortepiano: Ronald Brautigam
Great performance of the Waldstein sonata by dutch pianist Ronald Brautigam from his ongoing cycle of all Beethoven's solo piano works played on fortepiano. The instrument, made by Paul McNulty in 2007 after a Graf original from ca. 1819 - in combination with Brautigam's perceptive performance - gives the piece a whole new lease of life to modern ears that are used to the Steinway sound.
Each register of the instrument has its own distinctive sound character, which makes for a fascinating new journey into this familiar piece.
Enjoy!
