Quick recap of my preferred weapons for the fight:

Melee: Night's Edge with Feral Claws accessory, or Ball 'o Hurt.
Ranged: Bow with Jester's Arrows or Unholy Arrows, Bone Throwing Knives, or Spiky Balls. But mostly just Spiky Balls.
Magic: Vile Thorn, unless post Skeletron, then Water Bolt or Aqua Scepter.
Summoner: Get a whip! Snapthorn in particular is fantastic!

This guide is up to date for the PC version of 1.4.1 and any other updates through early March 2021. Theoretically there shouldn't be any major future updates.
